Silence – why?

I see silence as being the beginning of everything. “In the beginning” – the Word speaks of the formlessness and chaos that was in the beginning and who knows how long the Spirit of God hovered over it in silence before He began the process of separating light from dark and bringing order out of the chaos. (isn’t that the process of redemption in every aspect? The silence and the awareness of chaos and slowly He begins to bring His order and renewal into our lives?) (actually, isn’t that our job as part of the Bride of Christ to help each other recognize the chaos and choose to yield to God’s ordering process in our lives? So is it then that intercession is way more than words? Is it living authentically before God and also living authentically before our fellow man?

If I am filling the atmosphere with my words and my thoughts of how, why and etc. I am not able to hear what my Father is saying – and that hearing doesn’t always come through our ears. As we sit in silence, bringing all our senses into quiet and rest in Him, we begin to “hear” on a whole new level and in so many other ways than we experienced before. My impression is that the Living Word is patiently waiting for us to be quiet so that He can get His Word in edgewise.

Some call this centering prayer…we are returning to our center which is God and” presenting our body a living and holy sacrifice which is our spiritual service of worship.” Rom. 12

In silence I am surrendering my mind, will and emotions and bringing all of me into stillness before God in order to deepen my relationship with Him and leaving how that might look or feel entirely up to Him.
